Perangkat ini digunakan untuk memutar film rumahan maupun film pendidikan dengan kualitas gambar dan suara yang baik. Format Super 8 sendiri diperkenalkan oleh Kodak pada tahun 1965 sebagai format film yang lebih praktis dan mudah digunakan oleh masyarakat umum. Proyektor jenis ini banyak digunakan untuk pemutaran film keluarga maupun kegiatan pendidikan sebelum munculnya teknologi video digital.&#13;
